Cloud cost optimization

Understand the spend behind one workload.

When this is useful

A cloud bill shows charges, but not always the product behaviour that caused them. Idle capacity, data transfer, storage growth and workload patterns need different responses. This page is an entry point to the same bounded Backend & Cloud Diagnostic, with a cost-led question and attributable workload spend as required evidence.

  • Workload spend changes without a clear usage explanation.
  • Idle or oversized resources may be contributing to the bill.
  • A cost proposal has no baseline, workload attribution or trade-off analysis.

What you receive

  • Performance/cost baseline
  • Cost-driver evidence + recommendations
  • Scoped implementation proposal

What’s included

  • Review one service, up to three endpoints and one datastore, with attributable workload spend.
  • Agree a billing window and inspect existing cost exports, allocation and usage evidence.
  • Separate resource, storage and data-transfer drivers where evidence allows.
  • Build a performance/cost baseline and explain operational trade-offs.
  • Deliver evidence-backed recommendations and a scoped implementation proposal; include one review call and one factual-correction round.

Schedule & agreement

Draft planning assumption: 5–7 business days, starting only after adequate inputs, safe access and a delivery slot are agreed. Commercial scope is subject to review.

Currency, tax treatment and final scope are agreed before work starts. Implementation and ongoing support are scoped separately.

What’s outside the check

  • Organisation-wide FinOps, all accounts or contractual procurement advice.
  • Production changes, full new systems, migrations or stress testing.
  • Guaranteed savings, billing-account changes or ongoing managed operations.

Access we’ll agree

Agreed read-only architecture and observability access; existing cost exports or reports with spend attributable to the selected workload; adequate usage and performance data. Do not provide payment access or secrets. These inputs are requested only after initial scoping.

From diagnosis to a scoped fix

A bounded implementation could right-size one component, adjust a retention policy or address a costly request path. Evidence, baseline, acceptance criteria and rollback are agreed first. Performance and cost entry pages lead to one combined diagnostic, not two mandatory purchases.

Questions before you start

Is this separate from the backend diagnostic?

No. Backend performance and cloud cost are different entry questions for the same Backend & Cloud Diagnostic. Scope one service once; choose the evidence and emphasis that match your problem.

Will recommendations always reduce spend?

No. A recommendation can involve reliability or latency trade-offs, and some costs may already be appropriate. Findings explain assumptions and what needs validation without promising savings.
