Backend & API performance
Find what makes your backend slow.
When this is useful
A slow API can start with a database query, a queue, a synchronous dependency or resource contention. Adding capacity may hide the underlying issue. This diagnostic follows up to three endpoints through one service and one datastore to establish what the existing evidence supports.
- Requests slow down at particular times or under specific loads.
- Database queries, queues or external dependencies dominate response time.
- The team cannot reproduce the slow path or isolate its cause.
What you receive
- Performance and attributable cost baseline
- Bottleneck evidence + recommendations
- Scoped implementation proposal
What’s included
- Review one service, up to three endpoints and one datastore.
- Inspect available traces, query plans, logs and resource utilisation.
- Connect resource usage and attributable workload spend to the performance baseline where adequate data exists.
- Identify plausible bottlenecks and distinguish evidence from hypotheses.
- Deliver evidence-backed recommendations and a scoped implementation proposal; include one review call and one factual-correction round.
Schedule & agreement
Draft planning assumption: 5–7 business days, starting only after adequate inputs, safe access and a delivery slot are agreed. Commercial scope is subject to review.
Currency, tax treatment and final scope are agreed before work starts. Implementation and ongoing support are scoped separately.
What’s outside the check
- Organisation-wide FinOps, every cloud account or a full migration.
- Production changes, full new systems, migrations or stress testing.
- Guaranteed savings, uptime commitments or managed operations.
Access we’ll agree
Read-only observability, sanitised logs, relevant code and architecture, and billing exports or cost reports. Initial review does not require write access to production or payment access.
From diagnosis to a scoped fix
A follow-on package might optimise one query path, right-size an agreed component or add instrumentation. We define the baseline, workload and rollback plan before making changes.
Questions before you start
Will you change our production infrastructure during the check?
No. Assessment uses read-only evidence. Any implementation needs a separate scope, access agreement and change plan.
Can you guarantee a response time?
No. Results depend on the workload and system constraints. We agree a baseline and validation method; the diagnostic does not guarantee a performance target.

Have a specific problem?
Start with a useful question.
Describe the symptom and the outcome. We’ll define the boundary before quoting the work.
